In the winter of 2016/2017 Echis worked together with Medici per i Diritti umani (Doctors for Human Rights) for the project Terragiusta. The project intent was to offer health assistance and legal support to seasonal migrant workers employed during the harvest of oranges in Piana di Gioia Tauro area (Calabria, Italy). Interviewing landowners, seasonal workers, cooperatives and mayors, Echis tries to piece together this fragments to create an actual picture of the exploitment industry that every year casts a shadow on the harvest of oranges in Calabria.
In the audio-map you find below, we tell this story, bringing you in the places where the harvest happens, in the fields among the rows loaded with juicy fruits and inside the ghettos where farm workers rest at the end of every work-day. You can find the english transcript (in .pdf) below each chapter.
